Our Philosophy

The Fort Leavenworth philosophy is based on the belief that through specially designed instruction, related services, and accommodations, students can succeed and grow together at Fort Leavenworth. Therefore, special education support and services are an integral part of each school and are provided to eligible students ages 3 to 21.

Transitioning to Special Services at USD 207

What to Do Before Arriving
While preparing for your family's upcoming arrival to Fort Leavenworth, we encourage you to inform the Special Services Department that you will enroll your child at USD 207. You can reach us by email at [email protected] or by phone at 913-651-7373.

Next, you will begin the online enrollment process. While completing your child's application, please:
  • Provide consent for USD 207 to request official special education and/or 504 Plan records from your child's previous school; and
  • Upload your child's current IEP, evaluation, and/or 504 Plan records.

What to Expect When the School Year Starts
If a copy of your child's IEP or 504 Plan has been provided to USD 207, comparable special education services and/or accommodations will begin during your child's first week of school. If a copy has not been provided, services and/or accommodations will begin as soon as records have been obtained.

Within your child's first month of school, a USD 207 staff member will contact you to schedule a move-in meeting. You will meet with service providers at this meeting and review what the incoming IEP or 504 Plan looks like at USD 207.
