You like to eat, right?  But you don’t just want to eat anything, you want to eat really good food.  Join the Iron Chef group to discover you can make some really good food without breaking the bank.  You’ll develop your own culinary skills that will benefit you now and in the future.  Speaking of the future, you’ll realize that good food can also be budget friendly.  Become an Iron Chef and impress your family and friends with your cooking skills!


Everyone likes good food.  The concept of this group was to teach students some basic cooking skills while making budget friendly good food.  Our teachers remembered back to their college days when they wanted to enjoy good food, but didn’t necessarily have the budget to frequent fancy restaurants.  Students learned how to make some tasty snacks, meals and beverages that wouldn’t break the bank.


  • Team Building: Meet Team, discuss kitchen sanitation and safety. Identify how to use convection oven. Recognize and research possible career options.

  • Weekly Meeting: Each week students looked at a different food type as they made a sample.

    • Healthy Snack/ Not Chips and Dip - Pita  Bread into Pita Chips with Homemade Hummus

    • Sandwiches v.s. Wraps - Identify calories, substitutions, sauces

    • On the Go, Meal or Snack - Smoothies with Fruit and vegetable

    • College Food - Ramped Up Ramen with Healthy add-ins

    • Beverages Coffee - Origin/History, brewing methods, tasting

    • Budget Food - Use Your Leftovers to stretch your $$$ - Make it taste different and have a different texture
