Bus Guidelines and Rules
VIDEO SURVEILLANCE
All district school buses are equipped with video cameras with audio capabilities.
STUDENT ACCESS FOBS
To enhance safety and accountability:
- All students riding regular bus routes will be issued a bus fob.
- Students are required to swipe their fob when getting on and off the bus.
- Replacement fobs are $10. (A note with the student's name and payment can be given to the Bus Driver or School Office.)
- Bus fobs are issued by the Transportation Department.
BUS RIDER EXPECTATIONS
Before the Bus Arrives:- Be at designated bus stops 5 minutes before the scheduled pickup time.
- For student safety, remain off the street at all times while waiting for the bus and maintain an orderly group.
- In accordance with KSDE regulations, riders should stand 10 feet away from the stop and wait until the bus has come to a complete stop before attempting to load.
On the Bus:
- The Bus Driver is in charge of the bus.
- For accountability, the Bus Driver shall assign everyone a seat within the first two weeks of school. The driver is allowed to change the seating arrangement at any time.
- All riders are to obey the instructions of the Bus Driver.
- Be courteous and respectful to the Bus Driver and all other riders.
- Keep your head, hands, and objects inside the bus at all times.
- Do not throw or toss anything out of the bus windows.
- Do not distract the Bus Driver while they are driving.
- Use quiet voices and wear headphones/earbuds with all electronic devices.
- Bus riders are to keep the aisles clear at all times, this includes feet, backpacks, instruments, and other items.
- Riders shall remain seated, facing forward with backpacks placed on their lap.
- Please refrain from damaging the seats and keep the bus clean. Damages will be charged to the rider.
- No food or drinks are to be consumed while on the bus.
- No dispersing of perfumes, body spray, cologne, or lotions while riding the bus.
- Bus riders are to remain quiet during the backing of the bus.
- In case of emergency, riders shall remain in the bus, calm, and quietly awaiting instructions from the driver.
- Riders shall gather all personal belongings prior to exiting the bus.
Prohibited Items: Large items, skateboards, scooters, animals, aquariums, tobacco products, and anything else the Bus Driver feels is unsafe.
After Leaving the Bus
- Riders will be dropped off at their regular neighborhood bus stop only.
- To ensure full attention of the surrounding area, riders shall remove headphones/earbuds prior to exiting the bus.
- Riders are to exit the bus and walk at least 10 feet away from the bus as soon as possible.
- Riders crossing the street must walk in front of the bus 10 feet from the front and wait for the driver to instruct the rider with the all-clear sign to start walking across the street.
BUS DISCIPLINE
Bus discipline is progressive and applies throughout the current school year.
- Bus Conduct Reports are progressive and accumulate throughout the current school year.
- All Bus Conduct Reports are reviewed and signed by the Director of Transportation and/or the Assistant Director.
- The Director of Transportation and/or Assistant Director determines the level and length of disciplinary action.
- Parents/guardians with questions regarding a Bus Conduct Report may contact the Transportation Department.
First Bus Conduct Report - The student may not ride the bus until the signed Bus Conduct Report is returned to the Bus Driver.
Second Bus Conduct Report - The student may be suspended from riding the bus for up to one (1) week. The student may not ride until the signed report is returned.
Third Bus Conduct Report - The student may lose bus riding privileges for the remainder of the school year or permanently. The student may not ride until the signed report is returned.
Severe or dangerous behavior may result in immediate suspension of bus privileges.
USD 207 BUS TRANSPORTATION TO LEAVENWORTH HIGH SCHOOL (LHS)
- 10th-12th grade resident students attending LHS are eligible for bus transportation after submitting a completed Leavenworth High School (LHS) Transportation Enrollment Form.
- 9th grade LHS students are eligible for bus transportation after submitting a completed Leavenworth High School (LHS) Transportation Enrollment Form along with payment. The bus fee must be paid in advance of riding at the Board of Education Office (207 Education Way) or via RevTrak. Bus fees for 9th grade LHS students are $275 a semester or $550 a year.
- 9th-grade Patton JROTC students are allowed to ride the LHS bus. If your student is enrolled in JROTC, please complete an Athletics/Activities Transportation Enrollment Form.
