Apple Distinguished Program
Fort Leavenworth, Kansas – March 1, 2013
The Fort Leavenworth USD 207 Board of Education is pleased to announce that CYBER-TEAMS has been named an Apple Distinguished Program for the 2012-2013 school year.
The Apple Distinguished Program designation recognizes programs that meet criteria for innovation, leadership, and educational excellence, and demonstrate a consistent vision of exemplary learning environments.
At the USD 207 Board of Education meeting on February 28th, the Board accepted the 2012-2013 Apple Distinguished Program Award from Apple Education Development Executive Barry Sevett.
USD 207 leaders developed the concept for the CYBER-TEAMS program, which is funded by DoDEA, the Department of Defense Educational Activity.
The program is a combination of robust ongoing professional development for teachers and related technology upgrades, all designed to support student learning.
Alan Landever, USD 207 Director of Technology Services, explained, “The professional development model we offer here includes job-embedded coaching, peer-led workshops, and regular time each academic quarter for teachers to collaborate and determine what will work best in their classroom. Our entire Technology Services Department gets involved to ensure that teachers are both confident and competent integrators of instructional technology. Our blog at www.cyberteamscenter.org highlights our success stories”
Keith Mispagel, USD 207 Superintendent, said, “The use of technology as a resource which supports our curriculum and student learning continues to be a district focus. We are fortunate to have a Board of Education that recognizes the importance of progressive and differentiated instruction. CYBER-TEAMS is an example of an initiative blending STEM and Arts education, hands-on learning, and 21st Century Skills. Our staff works very hard to provide a top quality education.”
